Camera… and Action! - Photosession with WUW Eurasia Champion Sick Bubblegum

The appointment had been set ahead of the match on May 25th where Sick Bubblegum won the title, defeating Free Sin Zakson at an IMPACT event in Japan. In this match Bubblegum also revealed his new gear for the first time. So showing the title, as well as the new gear, became important parts of the photo session.

Still the original idea remained: Creating images inspired by movie posters.

For this I wanted to try some new lighting techniques, simulating action movie like explosions going off in the background. Of course it didn’t end up looking like a real explosion would, but I am pretty happy with the resulting light and effects.

I kept using the same technique to create different moods as well, like this calm blue and purple

As well as a more aggressive red

To create this lighting in the back I simply used my brown patterned backdrop and hid a tube light behind Sick Bubblegum facing the backdrop. I do not have a lot of space in my current studio, therefore having enough room between the light and backdrop became a bit of a challenge. But in the end it worked out alright.

Bringing the focus back on creating movie poster pictures, I changed the backdrop and lighting, creating a more mystic scene that might work for horror rather than action.

Taking the shots and editing them was my part in creating the posters. Coming up with movie titles and adding them to the image will be done by someone else. I can’t wait to see the final results!

In the end I changed the background and lighting once more to do some simple promo shots that Sick Bubblegum can use for match announcements etc.

Also with these shots, I am always happy to see them in use. There is not a lot that feels better than knowing that my work has got purpose and value.
