2023 Tokyo Rainbow Pride

The Tokyo Rainbow Pride happened this weekend, for the first time since before the pandemic full and unlimited.
While proudly showing my pink-purple-blue colors whenever it seems appropriate, I had never been to a Pride before. So, of course I had to go. On Saturday I was busy with another project (more about that one later), but I went there on Sunday, when also the parade took place.

More than 10.000 people gathered on the event square at Yoyogi park from where the parade started and finished. There were people from all over the world! A lot of them must have come especially for the event. There was a group from Korea, and one from Taiwan. Americans, Europeans ( I even spotted a small group of Austrians), … and of course Japanese.

Japan is the last G7 country that still has not legalised same-sex marriage. So that was a topic, as well as equality for members of the LGBTQ+ community in general. Even though the majority of Japanese people supports gay marriage and equality, as usual the Japanese legal system is slow and reluctant to change. Therefore this Pride’s slogan was: “Press on till Japan changes”.

I have met and seen so many great people and amazing outfits, I am glad that I made the effort to register at the press counter so that I can now legally share my pictures with you. Also, I got to wear a “Press”-shirt all day, which was pretty cool too.
There is just not enough room for all of my photos in this blog post, but you can see all of my favourite pictures here in my portfolio.

Happy Pride everyone!
